Closing the loop
in the North
Accelerating the circular and regenerative transition across the Arctic, the Nordic North and the North Atlantic.
Get in touchWhy the North
The conditions of the North make circular solutions particularly relevant.
- Long distancesCommunities, markets and services lie far apart.
- Long supply linesGoods travel far to arrive, and far to leave.
- Costly logisticsDistance makes every transport more expensive.
- Strong local resourcesThe sea, the land and the people who know them.
- Dispersed communitiesSolutions have to work at a local scale.
What we work on
Six themes, all built around the region's own resource flows.
Ocean industries
More value from fisheries and aquaculture, including side-streams wasted today.
Food systems
Local production and processing that reduce dependence on long supply lines.
Regenerative tourism
Tourism that sources locally and leaves places stronger.
Critical raw materials
Recovering the materials the green transition needs, close to where they are found.
Self-sufficiency
Energy, materials and services communities can count on.
Island and coastal communities
Reasons to live, work and stay along the coast.
The resources, the knowledge and the people are here.
What's missing are the connections.
Arctic Circular Hotspot connects them.
How we work
People and organisations across borders and sectors.
Innovation and pilot projects built on local resource flows.
Knowledge about what works in the North.
Frameworks that make circular value creation possible.
Funding and partnerships that bring investment to the region.
Our starting point is the region itself: its natural resources, its communities, and the knowledge that already exists here.
Based in Hadsel. Working across the North.
Our main office is in Hadsel in VesterĂ¥len, Northern Norway.
Arctic Circular Hotspot is a sister organisation of Nordic Circular Hotspot, with a dedicated focus on the Arctic and the North.
It was initiated by Natural State, a strategy agency specialising in place development, place economy and sustainable economics.
